REVIEW
- Sonic Mook Club: 17th
June 2004 review
"The
Beale
played an impromtu gig at
Sonic
Mook Club
tonight. It was mighty.
The group were booked to
play at Catch
22
which ended in disaster
as a power cut inside the
venue killed the gig. Two
hours spent sitting in a
quiet eerie venue with
candles passed before the
group spectacularly
gatecrashed The
Black Madonnas
show across the road at On
The Rocks.
At 11.30 as the headline
band finished The
Beale
took to the stage,
hastily plugged in and
launched into their edgy,
Joy
Division-esqe
opener Frustration
Due To Incapacity
with the artist Adrian
R. Shaw
appearing on stage
minutes later dressed in
an array of sheets which
had been lying around
backstage. A huge white
sheet over his head, a
smaller red sheet over
the top of that and
another red sheet around
his waist. The group
hurried through 4 more
epics before exiting the
stage and the venue,
leaving the assembled
Shoreditch audience
bemused and in awe of
their god-like genius. At
this point the group's
drummer BR
Wallers
immediately grabbed a
guitar and began a short
set (AKA The
Rebel)
whilst the other members
disappeared into the
night." |
