THE
RECORD COLLECTOR - Review

"Big, rubbery,
detuned basslines
dominate this piece of
slightly deranged, modern
garage punk. The A-side
hammers home its message
by simply repeating Iggy
Navarro
ad infinitum, and the
B-side bigs up the
two-note Farfisa while
the vocalist (definitely
not singer) extemporises,
bitterly. Allegedly named
after the legendary
occasional 'tache
merchant' Ian
Beale,
they are a three-way
pile-up between The
Fall, The
Cramps
and Cool
Thing-era
Sonic
Youth
is what this single is
based on, and The
Beale
manages to salvage some
valuable scrap from the
wreckage." |

ROBOTS
AND ELECTRONIC BRAINS - Review

"7 Up used to
contain lithium. during
the great depression,
sales rocketed. Its name
was changed from
something agrochemical to
7 Up because it was sold
in 7 oz bottles and the
bubbles rose. How
literal. I am a mine of
information. The
Beale
probably contain lithium.
Or some other substances.
Their sales have not
rocketed. I'd guess. They
have changed their name
at various points. If
they were to do so again,
and desired to be as
literal as 7 Up, I'd
suggest Piss Up. I am not
a mine of useful
suggestions. The
Beale
sound like an accident in
a Joy
Division
factory and feature Adrian
R. Shaw
of The
Teenbeat
on shouting." |

MUTTS
& SLUTTS -
Zine

"This time last
year, a promo copy of The
Beale's
"New
7 Up"
7 incher found its way to
our local record store.
We didn't understand the
title. And the sleeve
artwork had obviously
been created by some
fucked up spazz mongo. So
we bought it. Precisely
25 minutes and 08 seconds
later we put it on for
the 9th time and agreed
we liked it. Listens 1 -
5 induced a state of
unease and fear, by the
time 6, 7 & 8 came
along we stabilised. On
the 9th we were
completely hooked. The
Beale
could be David
Thomas
fronting The
Fall, Joy
Division
on crack, The
Cramps
in a really bad mood or The
Residents-go-rockabilly!"

ARMCHAIR
CRITIC - Review,
Flitwick compilation

"Lifted above
routine punkerama by the
excellent vocals -
barking in both senses- ,
and by an irresistible,
nagging, Cramps/Batman
guitar line." -
