I still train on my Aende
bike that I used for racing, but
now with 700 wheels and 20 mm
tyres, tri-bars and clipless
pedals. Total weight of the bike
is now around 24lbs.

I use a Cardiosport
Ultima heart-rate
monitor and a Cateye
Astrale cycle-computer
with cadence for checking on
pedal revs per minute.

I do 3 laps over the local
'Oliver Twist' road race circuit,
near Notton - halfway between
Barnsley and Wakefield on the
B6132. Which is a mile and a half
from where I live.

The start and end of each lap of
the circuit is the white line for
the road race finish, which is
halfway between the crossroads
and Old Royston.

3 laps add up to 10 miles, which
includes climb each lap up
'Lanner'. There are 3 left-handed
turns, including 2 T-junctions
where you have to be careful of
traffic. I avoid the circuit
altogether between 3pm and 6pm
due to it being busy.

My best time on the course was a
24 minute ride with plenty of 25s
and 26s. Recent best times over
the last few years include 25.58,
26.51 and 27.31. This course is a
good 3 minutes slower than local
10 mile time trials.

If you give it a try for 3 laps
then let me know what times you
achieve.
