| spectre - 48k
spectrum zine, issue 3 october 1989 |
interviewed
by jon.
|
| jon - why did you
start programming? |
graham
- well
why not? what else is there to do with a computer? p'haps
program it to file and retrieve a list of telephone
numbers? |
| jon - brilliant
idea i never thought of that (um yes - someone else)
anyway next question. what was your first ever computer? |
graham
- the
16k (before 48) spectrum... it broke down in a month. |
| jon - i'm not
surprised. what have you got now? |
graham
- spectrum
48k (rubber jobby) and 128k +3 (disco kid). |
| jon - tell us
about this new game iron soldier? |
graham
- well
if you've bought the sinclair user you'll already know a
bit about it, it's just a simple little game, with
absolutely no violence at all contained in it, in fact
it's almost an anti-war protest song... and it's got a
cheat mode. |
| jon - looks
violent to me, but that's another story. is this the only
job you have at this mo? |
graham
- yes
it's "your only job", mainly due to the fact
that barnsley 'as an unemployment fugure twice the
national average, due to underfunding, lack of
development, the pit closures and mrs t! i could go on
but i won't, and you wouldn't print it anyway, or would
you? |
| jon - probably
not! so one thing i'm sure loads of people want to know
(well me anyway) is do ya make "loadsamoney"? |
graham
- not
yet, but i'm working on it, then i'm going to buy a new
computer... a spectrum 48k rubber keyboard one. |
| jon - do you
really expect me to believe that? oh well bit of a wally
this one isn't he? how long have you been at it
(programming that is) and how long do you think you will
be at it? |
graham
- started
in 1983 and will finish in about the year 3o66, depending
on two points (1) we don't have a nuclear war and (2)
doctors develop an anti-aging pill. |
| jon - speaking
of violence and sex (we were!!!) what do you think of it
in software? |
graham
- there
hasn't ever been a "violent" game in the true
sense of the word, and it's a load of crap what some
people say about watching tv turns you into some kinda
a-team psycho man, tv standard is crap anyway. some of
our games are quite "sexy" don't you think? |
| jon - depends on
what your idea of "sexy" is don't it! how long
do you think the speccy will last? (i think and hope it
will carry on for quite a few years yet). |
graham
- who
knows? (well go and ask who then!! - jon) it's almost
done eight years now so p'haps it'll get to double
figures, one sincerely hopes so folks. |
| jon - doesn't
one! now you've written about 9 games haven't you. which
is the best you've written? |
graham
- every
game gets better, so watch out for "seahawk",
"classic golf" ...to name but two! |
| jon - what do
you think the best computer in the world is? |
graham
- probably
the american/japanese one thta's just been released the
"moz-err 19o2" which looks a very exciting (and
fast) machine and fairly good value for money at $18oo,
which is around £9oo, isn't it? |
| jon - haven't a
clue actually - still. now then let's think of some
non-computer quests. have you any pets? |
graham
- well
we've got about 1,974 tadpoles at the moment, it's quite
a task remembering all their names (we've even named one
"maggie" but that's just been eaten by a
starling!) (never a dull moment is there) we'll soon have to get rid of them
because of the new law/bill the "tadpole tax",
else it could prove quite unreasonably expensive. |
| jon - yes well i
think i'll have to do the same as i've got 1, 973
tadpoles. i'm not sure how i got them coz i haven't even
got a pond!! anywayi'm waqffling again aren't i. did you
like school? |
graham
- not
excessively, people who have to go to school should be
paid an allowance, perhaps 2op per day? although it would
have to be inline with inflation so it could prove pretty
expensive, like £2ooo a lesson. |
| jon - another
brilliant idea there graham. seeing as you're so
infuriating i don't suppose you're married? |
graham
- i'm
only twelve and a quarter! |
| jon - am i ever
going to get a serious answer from you. oh well i suppose
i better round of this interview, if you can call it
that, with a couple of quezzies! do you plan to start
your own software house? |
graham
- not
yet! but we may one day! |
| jon - a sensible
answer amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! last q - what lies in
the future? |
graham
- the
conservative party, they also lie in the present and past
tenses as well. anon? well a few new games! will we ever
get another interview in this fanzine? perhaps giving
news of our christmas plans? oooh! |
| jon - well he
didn't stay sensible for long did he, and you can only
come back if you're sensible next time ok. well that's
that then say goodbye. |
graham
- goodbye. |
