club: 19 november 2oo4 as usual, the montague arms was marvellous, and discovered that local wildman jason quinn is the dirty pins' new bassist. a real surprise, considering he is a frontman type... the dirty pins got on stage, with their new bassist and local anti-hero jason singing to the smashing pumpkins and amusing the crowd with his great john lennon impression. the dirty pins themselves were superb, with dave's dynamic guitar work functioning well in a band and jason looking solid in his bass and backing vocal duties. during the set, known's crew crashed the party to watch jason in action, and moshed rather viciously (well, amil in particular), and as a consequence, amil nearly got into a fight. despite that, this was possibly the best gig i saw this year, and that alone is a huge feat considering the quality gigs I've seen this year. daryl castillo @ cozzie music |

club: friday, 19 november a good night though, the dirty pins in particular very entertaining in a punky libertines kind of a way. sharp dj too, the record playing when i walked in was blondie's x-offender, which i love. neil-newx |

cozzie music i went to see the lost club at the montague arms. in an eventful night, it was in the heat of the hype that surrounded the angular records' recent cd review in the nme, people still buzzing and stewing over it / well, many things can happen on friday 13th. it was a night of poetry and music, with zen putting up a dead good set, one jah with morris was in form with his full band and known finishing off the night in customary spectacular style. an interesting act called the dirty pins played a pretty good set (with just one person on guitar), although the other bands the base and ??? put on lacklustre performances. the montague arms is a real cool venue, and i mingled with many new cross favourites present, like chet, red route, sonarfly and suchlike. cozzie music |
